We will meet in the heart of San Basilio de Palenque. Here you will receive an introduction to the historical importance of the town as the first free corner of America, and we will head to the home of one of the traditional hairdressers.
20 MinutesOnce in the family space, you will hear stories about how enslaved women used their hair to hide seeds and draw escape maps. You will learn about the different styles that were used to communicate secret messages between communities.
40 MinutesYou will see live the skill of the Palenquera hands weaving stories. You will be able to interact with the hairdresser, ask questions, and capture details of this art. We will end the experience by sharing reflections on the preservation of this cultural identity.
