What to expect
First stop at the El Desempeño checkpoint, the gateway to this natural sanctuary declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then, visit the Isthmus Interpretation Center, featuring the skeleton of a southern right whale and panoramic views of Nuevo Gulf.
Continue to Puerto Pirámides to take the southern right whale watching boat tour — approximately 1.5 hours on Nuevo Gulf (included in the program, available from June to December).
Drive on gravel roads to Caleta Valdés, a permanent refuge for colonies of elephant seals and sea lions. Explore Punta Cantor (trails available from September to March, with Magellanic penguin watching) and finish at Punta Norte with marine wildlife observation depending on the season.
