Cultural Trekking to Laguna Quilotoa and Visit to Toachi Canyon from Quito

This Cultural Trekking to Quilotoa takes you to one of Ecuador's most stunning landscapes. Discover the spectacular volcanic crater that houses the turquoise-colored Laguna Quilotoa. The 3-hour hike allows you to descend to the lagoon's edge and return to the viewpoint. Along the way, we will visit the Toachi River Canyon and learn about the art of the Tigua painters.

What to expect

Meeting at the meeting point and departure from Quito

Meet at Plaza Foch (7:10 a.m.) or at the designated café in Plaza San Blas (7:20 a.m.) to start the journey south.

Meeting with the painters of Tigua

During the trip, artists from the Tigua community will board the bus to show their art or, alternatively, we will stop at the local gallery to see their leather paintings.

45 Minutes
Visit to the Toachi River Canyon

We will make a brief stop at a viewpoint to admire and photograph the impressive geological formations of the Toachi River Canyon.

30 Minutes
Arrival at the Quilotoa Lagoon viewpoint

We arrive at the main viewpoint of Quilotoa, located at 3,900 meters above sea level, to take photos and prepare for the hike.

Hike to the Quilotoa Lagoon

Start of the descent hike to the edge of the lagoon. You will have time to enjoy the view and the volcanic crater.

Traditional lunch

After the hike back to the viewpoint, we will enjoy a traditional lunch to regain energy.

Return trip to Quito

We begin the return trip to the city of Quito.
