What to expect
Reception in the city of San Juan and transfer to Barreal. Accommodation in Barreal. Acclimatization, equipment check, logistics briefing. Introduction to the history of the crossing. Free time. Night in Barreal shared accommodation for 4 to 5 people depending on availability. Inquire about singles or doubles. (1700 meters above sea level)
Breakfast. Transfers in 4x4 vehicles to the first mountain post. Assignment and preparation of the pack animals. Lunch in the field. Departure through the mountain valley bordered by La Ramada and Alma Negra hills. Wildlife watching. Arrival at the first camp, night at Peñón Colorado or Los Hornitos (Camp altitude 2900 meters above sea level) *depending on where we start the ride we can advance to another camp at 3600 meters above sea level or intermediate
Breakfast at Peñón or Los Hornitos. Departure towards the Espinacito pass, where we will reach a maximum altitude of 4,500 meters above sea level, perhaps the most adrenaline-filled and exciting moment of the expedition. Arrival at the base camp. Dinner and night at Las Vegas de Gallardo (Camp altitude 2990 meters above sea level)
Breakfast at Las Vegas de Gallardo. We ride to Valle de Los Patos and then reach Valle Hermoso, where the Army will set up its last camp on the Argentine side. Dinner and night near Valle Hermoso. (Camp altitude 2990 meters above sea level)
Breakfast. Ride to the Argentine-Chilean border marker. Rest. (Camp altitude 2990 meters above sea level). Night at Valle Hermoso.
Breakfast. Return ride along mountain streams until reaching Rancho de Lata or Vega del Cura, where we will spend the night and have dinner. (Camp altitude 3550 meters above sea level)
Breakfast at Rancho de Lata. Ascent to Paso La Honda (4350 meters above sea level) where the boundary line of Altas Cumbres and Cerro Aconcagua can be seen. Arrival at Manantiales. Possible extension to Las Hornillas depending on road conditions. Transfers to Barreal. Night in shared cabins for 4 to 5 people.
