What to expect
The trek begins at the base of the volcano, entering a trail that winds through a characteristic Patagonian forest of lenga and araucaria trees. As altitude is gained, the terrain changes drastically, leaving behind vegetation to give way to an impressive landscape of volcanic scoria. This section represents the main physical challenge of the day, requiring constant effort to navigate the loose and steep terrain.
After overcoming the scoria section, the refuge on the north face is reached. Here, a well-deserved rest will be taken to regain energy, have lunch, and enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the lakes and mountain range. Then, the descent will begin along the same trail, allowing the landscape to be appreciated from a new perspective and concluding the experience of 9 hours of intense trekking on the majestic Lanín Volcano.
