What to expect
At 7:30 am the journey begins from Iruya heading to the community of Chiyayoc, traveling along Andean trails through mountains and rural landscapes.
At 1:00 pm there is a break to have a snack lunch in Río Colorado, midway through the first day's route.
At 3:00 pm the hike resumes towards the community of Chiyayoc, following trails used by local families.
At 5:30 pm arrival at a host family home in Chiyayoc. At 5:40 pm a snack is served with herbal tea. At 8:00 pm dinner is offered followed by rest in beds.
At 7:00 am breakfast is served to start the second day of trekking.
At 7:30 am the hike begins heading to the community of Rodeo Colorado, following mountain trails and crossing rural areas of the northern Andes.
At 1:00 pm lunch is held at a host family home in the town of La Loma.
At 2:30 pm the route resumes towards Rodeo Colorado along mountain paths with sections of ascent and descent.
At 5:30 pm arrival at the community of Rodeo Colorado and accommodation in cabins. At 5:40 pm a snack is served with herbal tea and homemade bread. At 8:00 pm dinner is offered followed by rest in beds.
The day begins with breakfast and free time in the morning to rest and enjoy the community surroundings.
At 9:30 am a tour is made around the town and viewpoints of Rodeo Colorado, with panoramic views of the Andean landscape and local life.
At 1:00 pm lunch is served at the local stop Doña Nely.
At 2:30 pm departure from Rodeo Colorado in a 4x4 to Abra del Sauce to continue the journey through a new stage of the route.
At 3:00 pm the descent towards Molinos begins along mountain trails.
At 6:00 pm arrival at Molinos. At 6:30 pm a snack is served with herbal tea. At 8:00 pm dinner is offered followed by rest in beds.
At 7:00 am breakfast is served before starting the fourth day's hike.
At 7:30 am the hike begins from Molinos heading to Nazareno along a new mountain trail.
At 12:00 pm lunch is held in the community of Los Álamos, during a break in the route towards Nazareno.
At 1:30 pm the hike resumes from Los Álamos towards Nazareno along the original circuit.
At 4:00 pm arrival at Nazareno. At 5:00 pm time is set aside for snack and showers. At 8:00 pm dinner is offered with a toast in the dining room followed by rest in lodging with beds.
At 4:30 am departure from Nazareno by van for the final transfer to La Quiaca.
At 8:30 am arrival at the bus terminal in La Quiaca, where the journey ends.
What you should know
- 60-liter backpack or carrying bag
