What to expect
We depart from San Martín de los Andes at 6:00 am in vehicles heading to Laguna Verde where the trek begins. This is the longest day in terms of kilometers and time, but it is also the day that will surprise us with the landscape, as we cross an impressive forest of Raulies, Ñires, and Lengas until we reach the lava escorial from the Achen Ñiyeu Volcano. We will skirt it to gain height and be amazed by a completely volcanic terrain at the foot of the volcano. We cross the entire Auquinco pass to begin descending to Rincon de los Pinos, where we will set up our first camp. Distance 20 km. Elevation gain 400 m +. Approximate time 8 hours.
After breakfast and breaking camp, we begin the trekking of our second day. This day is less demanding than the first, with fewer kilometers and elevation gain. It will take us approximately 5 hours to reach our next camp on the shores of Lake Lolog. The landscape is completely different; we first immerse ourselves in the Patagonian forest and then cross an area of coirones with a privileged view, ford the river twice, and after crossing a recovering forest that suffered a fire several years ago, we arrive at our second stop in Auquinco. There, accompanied by a nice campfire, we will enjoy dinner to rest and start a new day! Distance: 12.5 km. Elevation gain: 250 m. Approximate time 5 hours.
Our third and final day begins. This time we will skirt Lake Lolog from Auquinco to Puerto Arturo. Along the way, we will have lunch at a mandatory stop, Playa Bonita. The trail crosses forests, bridges, and constantly offers beautiful views of the lake. The difficulty is similar to day 2. We finish the trek upon arriving at the park ranger's house at the Puerto Arturo station. Distance: 12.5 km. Elevation gain 355 m. Approximate time 5 hours.
