What to expect
Reception in Tilcara, in the Quebrada de Humahuaca. Transfer to the accommodation according to the program, where we will have an illustrated talk about the route by the guides. Then we will have time to explore the surroundings, being able to visit the ruins of the Pucará de Tilcara. Night in Tilcara.
We leave Tilcara heading to Alfarcito, passing on our way through the Devil's Throat, we will reach Quebrada Seca with the vehicles. Where our ascent begins with views of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, its incredible formations and colors. Our trail will gradually take us through a ravine, gaining height until the Abra de la Cruza 4,165 m, then descending to the Huairahuasi area, where we set up our first camp next to old mountain huts (Yuto Pampa).
After preparing our backpacks, we continue descending towards the Huairahuasi River, we get water and start an ascent that will take us to the ridge lines. Once on the ridge and with incredible views of the surrounding mountains, we will have lunch. During this day we will appreciate the change of colors on the mountain slopes, due to the years and eastern winds caught by these mountain ranges. After lunch, we continue and in a couple of hours we arrive at Molulo where we will set up our camp, near the town.
After breakfast, we have a morning ascent to the ridge lines, we continue to the Abra del Potrero, before starting the steep ascent to the red rock we have lunch and rest surrounded by green alders. A winding trail will lead us through lush vegetation to the top of the rock, once there, our descent begins to the small town of San Lucas where we will spend the last night.
We leave San Lucas behind and follow a trail that runs parallel to the river of the same name, on our way already in the middle of the yungas we will come across fantastic waterfalls that will leave us amazed falling from the rocks. After crossing the San Lucas river, our ascent to San Francisco begins, where our transfer back to S. S. de Jujuy or Salta awaits us.
