Discover Trevelín: the Welsh town in the heart of the Andean Patagonia

Discover Trevelín, a small town in the Province of Chubut located in the Futaleufú River Valley, at the foot of the Patagonian Andes and just 24 km from Esquel. Founded by Welsh settlers at the end of the 19th century, it still preserves its cultural heritage in its tea houses, historic flour mill, and the Regional Museum Molino Andes. Surrounded by forests, lakes, and clear rivers, Trevelín is the ideal starting point to explore Los Alerces National Park, one of the most beautiful in Patagonia, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Don't leave without trying the Welsh cake with tea in one of its traditional houses. A peaceful, authentic destination with breathtaking nature.

Best season

The best time to visit Trevelín is from November to March, during the southern spring and summer, when the weather is warmer, the trails in Los Alerces National Park are open, and the landscapes are full of color. January and February are the busiest months, especially for those combining the visit with Esquel and the famous La Trochita train, so it is advisable to book accommodation in advance. Autumn, between March and May, is also a very special time with forests dyed red and yellow. If you travel in winter, between June and August, it is good to know that the cold is intense and some routes may be snowy, although the town maintains its charm and the tea houses are the perfect refuge.

Weather

Trevelín has a cold temperate mountain climate, with four well-defined seasons. In summer, from December to February, temperatures range between 8°C and 24°C, with sunny days and cool nights. In winter, from June to August, the thermometer drops between -3°C and 8°C, with frequent frosts and snowfalls covering the hills and sometimes the town itself. Rainfall is more abundant than in the rest of Patagonia due to the Andean influence, which explains the lushness of its forests. It is recommended to wear warm layered clothing throughout the year, especially for outdoor activities.
