What to expect
At 10:30 AM the passenger must present themselves at the Receptive Chaltén office (Av. San Martín 55). We depart from El Chaltén traveling the 12 km that separate us from the Río Eléctrico along a winding gravel road following the Río de las Vueltas. During the journey, important information about the area is shared and stops are made at panoramic points. Once at the Río Eléctrico, the 17 km hike begins, following the Río Blanco where after an hour and crossing beautiful forests of Lengas and Ñires, you will reach the Mirador del Glaciar Piedras Blancas, where an incredible frontal view of the glacier can be seen. Continuing along the trail, you will reach the Poincenot area with a unique view of the glacier and surrounding granite spires. Here begins the ascent of about 300 meters which in 90 minutes allows us to discover the Laguna de los Tres and appreciate in all its magnitude the central wall of the mountain. Then the descent begins and about 20 minutes after leaving the Poincenot area, you will reach the Fitz Camp Base Camp to enjoy a snack, dinner, and rest. Accommodation at Fitz Camp Base Camp.
The first hour of the morning is an unforgettable moment in this area, the proximity of the central wall of the mountain reflecting the reddish color of the sun is usually an unforgettable memory. We enjoy breakfast and prepare to continue our walk. We say goodbye to Fitz Camp advancing along the trail of the Madre and Hija lagoons which in about two hours connect with the Cerro Torre trail, to arrive an hour later at the foot of the Torre lagoon. Surely around noon, the view of the Grande glacier, Solo mountain, Torre, Eger, and Stanhard spires provide the perfect setting to enjoy our lunch. From there, always following the course of the Fitz Roy river, we descend until arriving in about 3 hours at the town of El Chaltén where our adventure ends. But if after breakfast someone prefers to stay and enjoy the area, they can do so without problems, and around noon return via the Capri lagoon trail and the Matzen estancia viewpoint, reaching El Chaltén in approximately three hours.
