Ovalle: the fertile oasis of the Limarí valley

Ovalle: the fertile oasis of the Limarí valley

This quiet city in the Norte Chico region is known as the "capital of Limarí" and stands out as the heart of a green valley contrasting with the arid hills surrounding it. Its main attractions are the Pichasca National Monument, where you can see petrified logs and dinosaur replicas, and the mystical Valle del Encanto, a unique archaeological site full of petroglyphs and remains of the Diaguita culture. Additionally, the area is famous for its extensive pisquera grape plantations, high-end wineries, and exquisite artisanal goat cheeses, ideal for lovers of gastronomic tourism.

Best season

The best time to visit Ovalle is during the spring and summer months, especially between October and March. During this period, temperatures are very pleasant, the night skies show their maximum clarity for stargazing, and you will coincide with the harvest season and traditional festivals around the valley.

Weather

Ovalle enjoys a semi-arid climate, characterized by very little rainfall and high solar radiation almost all year round. Days are usually very hot and dry, while nights are cool; in the mornings, a dense coastal fog known as "camanchaca" often rolls in, which quickly dissipates by midday, giving way to clear skies.
